How To Get A SkyTab Demo On Your Windows-Based Device - Via The Mumuplayer Emulator App
NOTE: For SkyTab POS demo purposes, the Mumuplayer emulator app will not function on non-windows based devices and also won't work on devices that don't support "hardware virtualization", even if that device is technically a PC.
If your device isn't running windows, this will not work. Please check that prior to proceeding.
First, click HERE to open the Shift4 Demo Install Guide to begin the setup process.
Disregard that the process page refers to an app called "Bluestacks". This is their old emulator and although it still works, Shift4 wants us to use Mumuplayer moving forward. The setup / run / permissions / serial number generation process is the same for Mumuplayer as it is for Bluestacks^
Then, click HERE to download Mumuplayer.
IMPORTANT: If there is an option to choose which version you download, make sure to download "Android 11-64 Bit" version. Any newer versions (like Android 12 or 13) will not work with the SkyTab demo.
Then, download the necessary APK file that is also linked on the Shift4 demo guide page.
-
Once installed, run the program, and you will see it start to ask you for some permissions to be enabled. Please ensure all permissions are allowed (this is critical for generating a serial number). You will have to click quite a few toggles and back arrows to mark all permissions as allowed.
-
If this^ is done successfully, a serial number should generate on the bottom left of the demo login/pinpad screen. If a serial number generates, your device is compatible. If it does not, your device is most likely not compatible.
Please send a photo of your demo's serial number to our Sales Manager, Ryan Raymundo via Slack or email ([email protected]) so that he can:
- Add your device’s serial number (from BlueStacks) to the company Lighthouse MID system as a dummy "device" in the "restaurant"
- Register you in the company demo MID Lighthouse account, and give you certain permissions that allow you to navigate Lighthouse and the demo to the fullest extent. You'll show up as if you're an owner / employee of the restaurant.
Note On Transition From Bluestacks:
Shift4 offers us limited virtual demo support, and has told us that, for Windows-based devices, they would prefer for us to transition from the Bluestacks app to Mumuplayer.
Mumuplayer is much easier to navigate and run than Bluestacks! .
If you currently have Bluestacks and have no issues with it, you're welcome to keep using it. But, if you have any issues with Bluestacks after June 1st, you'll most likely need to download Mumuplayer and run the demo from that emulator (there is a small monthly cost after the free trial of Mumuplayer).
Lighthouse Only:
If are unable to get the demo successfully added to your device, and don't want to purchase a compatible device, you're still able to be added to and access Lighthouse. Let Ryan know if you would only like that access.
If You Need Help:
Think you may have done a step wrong, or have a question? Contact Ryan, who can troubleshoot or go through these steps with you live over a Zoom call.
After Your Demo is Installed:
Once your demo is set up, here are some key things to remember:
- You can open tickets while showing merchants the demo, but always close or void them out when done. Since everyone uses the same company demo MID, leaving tickets open will affect others.
- IMPORTANT: Do not change any settings in the POS Demo or Lighthouse (tweak menu, table setup, employees, etc.) on the front end or back end. Changes will apply to everyone's demos! You can still show the merchant how they can make the changes, but don't actually make the changes.
